We are aware that it is important for people who have recently arrived in the UK to have access to useful information resources. Therefore, we have created a list of organisations which provide important information in the areas of education, health, immigration and business.
Accessing information is relevant to the network as it allows new residents and visitors to London to integrate more easily in their new environment. It is also advisable to visit the Embassies of your respective country, which have an office in London, to find out the type of services that they provide.
The National Health Service
The National Health Service (NHS) offers a range of medical services for all residents and is financed by the British government. Some of the services are not completely free, for example dentists or treatment for certain illnesses. We recommend that you visit the NHS website for further information.
Information on Immigration, Work Permits and Student Visas
The regulations concerning student and work visas have changed significantly. You can find all the information relating to this on the Home Office website. We recommend that you visit the Home Office website.
When you become a permanent legal resident of the UK, you will start contributing to the social security system. You will be able to receive state benefits as well as pay the relevant taxes. For more information, visit the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) website.
For those of you who are interested in practising your profession in the UK, it is important to clearly understand the requirements as these will affect your job search and future employment opportunities. We recommend that you visit the NARIC website.
